I spend a lot of time talking to seniors and getting to know them. Most are excited about graduation and wonder what the world has in store for them. For many, graduation will be their release into the world, often the first time they’ve been living on their own.

I love capturing images that will remind them of their journey, but I love hearing about their thoughts concerning the road ahead. I listen. Some things they tell me, and other things become clear without having to be said aloud.

Are you wondering what to give your senior for graduation? Maybe I can help…
Sometimes you know EXACTLY the right thing – it’s something they’ve been needing or wanting and maybe you’ve already purchased it and have it waiting. If you DON’T know what to get your graduate, then you’re in the majority.

The needs of young adults vary, as do their interests. But here is a list of the top five, guaranteed-to-please graduation gifts!
  1. Cash. You’ve always known… cash is king. It spends anywhere, unlike gift cards. It can get you out of a pinch, or get you into somewhere fun! No matter the person, everyone appreciates cash. Seniors are no different – it’s the number one thing they all hope they’re getting in their graduation cards.
  2. Laptop. Unless your graduate has a new laptop, it’s likely they need an upgraded or updated one. Technology changes SO fast and what was awesome two years ago, now feels like a dinosaur. If it’s too spendy of a gift, consider going in together on a nice one with a lot of storage space and processing power. A gift from a group is always appreciated.
  3. Noise Cancelling Headphones. Whether a high school graduate, or a college graduate, it’s rare that a young adult will find enough quite time. Noise cancelling headphones can create solitude in a crowd.
  4. Luggage. Whether just for weekends home, or maybe a graduation trip abroad, nice luggage is a timeless classic.
  5. Toolbox. This is one of those gifts they don’t even know they need, but will think of you every time they use it… and they WILL use it! At the very least, your graduate will need a small toolbox with basic items: flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, small hammer, small level, small tape measure, box cutter, and maybe a small set of hanging hardware. Some big box stores even have these pre-filled and ready to use!
Really though, what seniors actually want... is to know that even though their lives are changing quickly, their people will be there for them no matter what. As seniors venture out on their own, they need to know they always have a home with those who love them.

"Lori is an exceptional photographer, and was my first choice for capturing images of my son for his senior pictures!! She made him feel at ease immediately, traveled to the locations he was interested in, and captured who he is perfectly!"  ~ Tonia R.
